There was a chance for a lot of catching up when our 3rd team met the L&R Past Lady Captains at Birstall today. Some old friends were lucky enough to be drawn together, whilst for many of us it was a chance to make new friends and find out about how other clubs are handling the current economic situation and falling numbers in ladies' golf. And the sun shone for us throughout- such a treat! Lady Vets' President Sue was unable to be there to see us off today, but L&RLCGA President Pam and Captain Julia were on the first tee with a basket of flapjacks and biscuits to build us up for the 18 holes ahead. The course was in excellent condition, but playing long, with some lush grass and long carries. However, the scoring was very competitive and the winners by two points at the end were Karen Thompson and Bridget Jenkins, along with partners Avis Webb and Ann Bancroft with a score of 81.
Our next match will be the even more competitive 1sts v 2nds at Lingdale next month - let's hope for another sunny day then!
