AmAm Longcliffe Senior Gents

The last time we played at Longcliffe was on 21st April in the Captain v Vice Captain Match and we had brilliant sunshine. Yesterday not only did we have brilliant sunshine, we had a very hot day and since I hadn’t put on any sunscreen I am somewhat red this morning. After last minute replacements due to car accidents, falls, hospital appointments and Covid outbreaks, we had a full squad and with everyone arriving in plenty of time for coffee and biscuits I had the opportunity to welcome our players and thank the Longcliffe Senior men for hosting our day. I was so focused on being the VETS Captain for the day I completely forgot to welcome everyone as Ladies Captain of Longcliffe (something we always try to do at Longcliffe when we have a visiting team).
President Sue was a crucial part of the squad yet again, substituting one week in advance which is much appreciated, as you all know by now, Sue is generally called upon to play whilst seeing everyone off from the 1st tee. Longcliffe did us proud with a fabulous Salad followed by Pavlova, tea and coffee. Paul, Club Steward provided a bottle of wine for nearest the pin on the 5th and David, Club Professional provided two sleeves of golf balls for nearest the pin on the 15th. Both won by the Seniors – Rob Pretty and Phil Appleby respectively. The team scores were really close, ranging from 75 – 84, then a brilliant 92! Jennifer Carter (Kirby Muxloe), Judy Arden (Lingdale), Kevin Ramskir and Paul Farmer from Longcliffe. L&RVLGA provided four bottles of wine for the winning team. Senior Captain Dave Beswick and Past President Arthur Plater said a few words and I rattled on!! and on!!! Thank you all for supporting these VETS matches, the AM/AM’s are particularly happy occasions, we had a really good day. A special thanks must go to your Vice Captain Jan for taking the money and ticking you off (not literally!).
